Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on an international visit to Nigeria, Brazil, and Guyana from November 16 to 21, 2024. The visit underscores India’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic and economic ties with key global partners and deepening relationships within multilateral forums like the G20 and Caribbean Community (Caricom).
The tour will begin in Nigeria on November 16, where Prime Minister Modi will meet Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This visit will be the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Nigeria in 17 years and comes as India and Nigeria celebrate their strategic partnership, established in 2007.
During the two-day stay, PM Modi will engage in discussions aimed at reinforcing bilateral cooperation, particularly in the fields of economic development, energy, and defence.
The Prime Minister is also expected to address members of the Indian community in Nigeria, where over 200 Indian companies have already invested around USD 27 billion in various sectors, reflecting the strong ties between the two nations.
On November 18, the Prime Minister will travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to participate in the G20 Summit. Hosted by Brazilian President Luis Inácio Lula da Silva, the summit brings together leaders of the world’s largest economies.
India is a key member of the G20 Troika, along with Brazil and South Africa, and has played an active role in shaping the summit’s discussions.
At the event, PM Modi will present India’s perspective on pressing global issues, building on the New Delhi G20 Leaders’ Declaration and previous Voice of the Global South Summits hosted by India. Several bilateral meetings are expected on the sidelines of the summit.
The Prime Minister’s final stop will be in Guyana from November 19 to 21, at the invitation of President Mohamed Irfaan Ali. This visit marks the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Guyana since 1968.
PM Modi’s itinerary includes discussions with President Ali, an address to Guyana’s Parliament, and a gathering with the Indian community. His visit follows President Ali’s participation as Chief Guest at India’s Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in 2023, where he received the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman award.
During his stay in Georgetown, the Prime Minister will also attend the second Caricom-India Summit, a platform to strengthen India’s longstanding partnership with Caribbean nations. He will meet with CARICOM leaders to discuss new avenues for cooperation.
